Title: Writing Diaspora
Professor Brij Lal is the world authority on Fiji Indian indenture history and author of many books and essays. He is also one of the three architects of the 1997 Fiji Constitution. He is currently Professor of Pacific History and Head of the Department in the Research School of Pacific History, the Australian National University. He has turned his pen to creative writing and has recently published his critically acclaimed book “Mr Tulsi’s Store” which led the reviewer for the Australian to refer to him as the Pacific’s answer to Nobel Laureate V S Naipaul. Professor Lal is a Fellow of the Australian Humanities Association (FAHA).
Professor Satendra Nandan is Professor of Communication Studies and Creative Writing at the University of Canberra. A major Pacific writer of long standing and author of many volumes of poetry and prose, Professor Nandan was a Minister in the ill-fated Bavadra Government in Fiji in 1987. Since coming to Australia after the 1987 coup he has been a regular commentator on Fiji politics, organizer of postcolonial literature conferences and invited guest to many creative arts festivals around the world.
