The  Krishna Somers Foundation  presents   a talk with a difference.

The poet John Mateer has kindly agreed  to give a talk entitled

"I am your Diasporia: Contemporary Poetics".

John Mateer will read a selection of his writings and discuss the implications of the notion of diasporia and empire in contemporary poetics.

John Mateer is the author of collections of poems that have appeared in Australia, South Africa, Indonesia and Japan. His travelogue, Semar's Cave: an Indonesian Journal, has been favourably reviewed in The Jakarta Post. His latest collection of poems, The Ancient Capital of Images, was described by the reviewer of The Japan Times as "inquisitorial, ethically preoccupied and sometimes powerfully intense." He has been a visiting lecturer at various Australian universities, at the Universities of Coimbra, Indonesia and Iowa and at Doshisha University in Kyoto.
