Title: Climate Change - An Inconvenient Truth Presentation
Abstract
Al Gore recently trained 80 Australians from all walks of life to spread his important message on climate change as depicted in the hit documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. Matt was fortunate to be included in this group. He will present the exact same slides as appear in that movie, complete with some additional slides relevant to Australia.
The talk examines the science of climate change, what is causing these changes as well as the evidence for it, and what we can do about it. Far from being just an environmental issue, climate change is now being given the recognition it deserves as a moral, economic, political and social issue. The dynamics of how society can and must adapt to climate change is something Matt will explore in his presentation and looks forward to engaging in with the audience afterwards.
About Matt
Matt graduated from Murdoch University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science). Matt was a former President of the Murdoch University Environmental Science Association and is passionate about Murdoch University and its ethos. He currently works as a lawyer at Minter Ellison in Perth where he is practising in a variety of areas, before eventually aiming to specialize in environmental and climate change law.
Matt has been a co-author or contributor to international journal articles on emissions trading, an international waste treaty and the joint management of national parks between indigenous Australians and conservation agencies.
He loves travelling and has visited North and South America, Asia, Europe and parts of the Pacific. His latest journey is to do the trans-Siberian railway in May. Matt believes an understanding of the diversity of the world and its differing needs is essential in forming part of the solution to climate change and other global environmental issues. An interest in international politics and social equity helps drive his zest for exploring new frontiers.
Matt is especially enthusiastic about the outdoors, music and sport. He manages local WA musician Stuart Orchard and is currently organizing the second music festival at his parent’s farm in Serpentine. The festival raises funds for East Timor whilst increasing awareness for the environment.
